Relationship with InnerVisions

Innervisions Chili lunch and BBQ

For over 20 years the Rotary Club of Port Moody have been serving a chili lunch to the men at InnerVisions Recovery House.

Billy Wesolowski had spoken at our Club many times and his story was so compelling, we decided to do something special for these men who are changing their lives one day at a time.

Christmas seemed like the perfect time to reach out. We asked our club members to donate socks, personal care items, gloves and a mug which were wrapped up and given to each of the men on the day of the chili lunch.

This is a popular event for the club and we arrive on the day at 10am with an small army of volunteers. We have chefs, choppers, can openers, cleaner uppers and table setters and ready to chip in and do their part. By lunch time the chili is made and we are ready to serve the InnerVisions men.

This is the best way to start the Christmas season, for us and for them. We meet different InnerVisions men each year, but it’s always a heart-warming experience to see the community come together like this.

Extending beyond an annual chili lunch

One of the requirements of being at InnerVisions is for the men to ‘give back’ and volunteer in the community. We have been very fortunate to have them help us each year at our Port Moody Rotary RIBFEST doing set up and tear down. This spring  they came out to help with our Westhill Loop Trail restoration project. Their assistance reduced the time to complete the project by half!

This summer will be the second year we have hosted a BBQ lunch for InnerVisions. The main difference being that we come armed with smokies and burgers instead of chili.

Beneficiary

InnerVisions is a safe and structured drug & alcohol treatment program created and operated by people who themselves have overcome their substance abuse issues. They provide an escape from the brutality and degradation of addiction. A rigorous program is applyied with a proven plan that they all follow to ensure success for everyone.

Sponsors

We greatly appreciate all the products, time and resources our sponsors donated to this project. Without them, this would not have been possible.
