Christmas at Eagle Ridge Manor

One of the first projects the Rotary Club of Port Moody did was to ask Eagle Ridge Manor if we could come and decorate their facility  for Christmas and to throw a Christmas Party for the residents. And we have been continuing to do this for 20+ years.

Annually we show up in droves during the first week of December to give the manor a Christmas makeover. With donated decorations, we create a festive environment with three Christmas trees.  We also set up lights on the outside of the building under the watchful eyes of the residents who enjoy the transformation. It’s amazing how strings of lights and baubles can out everyone in the festive spirit.

Two weeks later we return to host a Christmas party for the Manor residents and their families. Rotary donates the cake, oranges & punch and we serve everyone in attendance.  The manor organizes entertainment including a Christmas sing-a-long. Right as Santa Claus Is Coming To Town is being sung, we can hear Santa’s bells ringing and our very own Saint Nick comes through the door with a joyful “Merry Christmas”!

In the past we’d use a Polaroid camera so each resident could have a photo taken with Santa to keep as a momento. The party seems to evoke everyone’s inner child and old memories flood back of Christmases past.
